Fiercest battles take place near Pokrovsk

The fiercest battles on the frontline are currently taking place near Pokrovsk.

This was announced on television by Viktor Tregubov, spokesperson for the Operational Strategic Group Khortytsia, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“The most important and intense fighting is currently taking place near Pokrovsk. At the same time, it is obvious that this is one of the goals of the Russian campaign. Of course, it is difficult; of course, we would like the Russians to be stopped there as soon as possible, but we all understand that… stopping them there is a big task with a twist,” he said.

Tregubov assured that everything is being done now to restrain the Russians.

“Although let’s be honest: there are just too many of them there. And the tactic they are using there is actually a tactic of exchanging the number of Russians per meter of land,” the spokesman said.

He explained that Pokrovsk has been the main target and focal point of Russian attacks for many campaigns. In particular, this was the case during the winter campaign that began in December-January.

“It has remained so for several years now. At least at the end of 2023, the Russians were already heading for Pokrovsk, and now we are in the middle of 2025. For them, it is an important point that would give them control over the central Donetsk Region. That is why they threw all their forces there,” the spokesman said.

He said that the Russians must first be held back in the north of the city.

“First of all, we need to destroy as many of their personnel as possible there so that they cannot carry out further offensive actions, so that they run out of steam. Currently, all efforts are focused there… it is already a competition between two forces – who will prevail,” Tregubov said.

It was reported that the Russians are trying to create a springboard between Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, and Kostiantynivka.
