President Volodymyr Zelensky said he hopes that the key topic of the meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a ceasefire.

The Ukrainian leader made this statement in Berlin during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“We talked about the meeting in Alaska. We hope that the central topic of the meeting will be an immediate ceasefire. The President of the United States has repeatedly spoken about this,” Zelensky said.

He also noted that on the eve of this meeting, Putin is bluffing, trying to prove that he can occupy all of Ukraine.

“I told the US president and all our European colleagues that Putin is bluffing. He is trying to put pressure on all fronts of the Ukrainian front ahead of the meeting in Alaska. Russia is trying to portray itself as capable of occupying the whole of Ukraine. Of course, this is their desire,” the President of Ukraine said.

Zelensky noted that Russia does indeed have “several times more weapons, including three times more artillery, but Russia also has three times more casualties.”

“And that’s a fact. I told my colleagues and the President of the United States of America, our European friends, that Putin definitely does not want peace, he wants to occupy our country, and we all understand that. Putin cannot fool anyone,” said the President of Ukraine, adding that Putin is also bluffing about the sanctions not working.

“Putin is also bluffing, pretending that sanctions are not important to him and that they are not working. In fact, sanctions are very helpful and are hitting the Russian military economy,” said the Ukrainian president.
