Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his efforts to stop the killing and bring an end to the war.

He made the remarks during a meeting at the White House on Monday, August 18, Ukrinform reports.

“Thank you very much for your efforts, personal efforts, to stop killings and stop this war,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader also thanked First Lady Melania Trump, who recently sent a letter to Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding Ukrainian children who were abducted.

“She sent a letter to Putin about our kidnapped children. My wife, the First Lady of Ukraine, handed a letter to her. It is a very sensitive topic,” Zelensky added.

The letter was personally delivered to Trump. Zelensky further expressed appreciation for Trump’s support of the meeting format with European leaders at the White House.

Presidents Zelensky and Trump began bilateral talks in the Oval Office to discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine and possible ways to end it.
