Following the landmark meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukraine is coordinating with its allies to develop concrete security guarantees and prepare conditions for a potential meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin aimed at achieving a just peace.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this during a joint press conference with Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger in Odesa on Wednesday, Ukrinform reports.
Sybiha stressed that political and diplomatic efforts are currently the key to bringing Ukraine closer to a fair and lasting peace. He highlighted the significance of the recent Zelensky-Trump meeting, which also involved European allies:
“This was a milestone, a landmark meeting that has undoubtedly accelerated these processes. The Ukrainian side clearly understands the next steps needed to stop the killing of Ukrainians and halt Russian aggression. We are now engaged in active consultations with all our allies regarding further actions,” Sybiha said.
He added that Ukraine is holding talks with its partners on the specific content of security guarantees and the future security architecture:
“One of the priorities for the negotiating teams will be to fill the security guarantees and the future security infrastructure with concrete substance,” Sybiha said.
Sybiha also noted that the next crucial step could be a meeting between Zelensky and Putin, potentially in any format.
“It’s very important now to define both the timing and the location of this meeting. The Ukrainian side is ready because such a meeting could provide the answers we need and serve as a platform for achieving a just peace,” he said.
Earlier reports said that senior officials from the U.S., Ukraine, and several European countries were expected in the coming days to finalize a detailed security guarantees proposal for Ukraine, which will likely involve the deployment of U.S. Air Force assets.
