In recent weeks, Russian occupying forces have launched large-scale airstrikes on settlements near the former Kakhovka Dam, aiming to prevent Ukrainian defenders from maintaining their positions.
This was stated by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, in a comment to Ukrinform.
“Over the past one and a half to two weeks, the enemy has been carrying out daily massive airstrikes on settlements located near the former Kakhovka Dam, using large numbers of unguided aerial rockets. These include settlements like Odradokamianka and Kozatske. Every day, 60 to 80 unguided rockets are used there. Today, for example, they struck Lvove (a village in the Kherson region – ed.) with 20 rockets, using combat helicopters from the Russian army aviation, and launched 60 unguided rockets at the settlement of Burhunka,” Voloshyn said.
He added that the day before, the enemy used 56 guided aerial rockets against Odradokamianka and targeted the Antonivka road bridge.
Explaining the purpose of this tactic, Voloshyn noted: “From a military standpoint, unguided aerial rockets are typically used for area bombardment. Essentially, they are trying to wipe these settlements off the map and create a foothold there, so that our Defense Forces cannot hold the line in this small section of the contact zone near Kakhovka.”
According to Voloshyn, a similar situation is unfolding in Bilohirya, in the Huliaipole sector, where 20 to 40 guided aerial bombs are used daily. “Although the enemy is not conducting active assault operations there, they are also preparing footholds,” he explained.
He added that the enemy is deploying Ka-52 and Mi-8 helicopters, as well as army aviation from temporarily occupied territories.
At the same time, Voloshyn emphasized that Ukraine’s Defense Forces are actively resisting the enemy, destroying its personnel, equipment, and logistics.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian defenders recently destroyed a Russian fuel train on temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.
