President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed security guarantees and increasing the Netherlands’ involvement in this process with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof.

The Head of State announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

“I spoke with Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof. Today is a very special day in Ukraine – National Flag Day. Thank you, Dick, for your important and warm words of support to our people, to all Ukrainians. We greatly value the assistance of the Netherlands and the solidarity of the Dutch people. Thank you for standing with us and helping to protect lives,” Zelensky said.

He informed that during the conversation, the sides discussed diplomatic work with partners and meetings in Washington. The President stressed that there is now a real chance to end this war. Ukraine is ready for constructive steps that could bring real peace closer. However, Russia shows no intention of peace on its side and continues shelling Ukrainian cities.

“We interpret all signals coming from Moscow these days in the same way. Pressure is needed to change their position, as well as a meeting at the highest level to discuss all issues,” the President emphasized.

According to him, special attention was paid to the issue of security guarantees. At present, teams from Ukraine, the U.S., and European partners are working on their architecture. All proposals will be ready in the coming days.

“We also spoke about how the Netherlands can increase its involvement in this process and help ensure security guarantees,” Zelensky noted.

Zelensky and Schoof also discussed joint projects and investments in the defense industry. The President announced important agreements and a meeting in the near future.

As reported, in early August, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp stated that Ukraine’s defense capability must be strengthened due to ongoing Russian aggression. For this reason, the Netherlands is allocating 500 million euros for a new U.S./NATO initiative.
