European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump following news of a combined attack by Russia on the night of August 28, during which, among other civilian targets, the office of the EU Delegation to Ukraine was hit.
She reported this on social media X, according to Ukrinform.
“Just spoke with President Zelensky, then Donald Trump, following the massive strike on Kyiv which also hit our EU offices,” European Commission President wrote.
She believes “Putin must come to the negotiating table”.
“We must secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine with firm and credible security guarantees that will turn the country into a steel porcupine,” Ursula von der Leyen stated.
She stressed that Europe fully play its part.
“Our defence instrument SAFE, for example, will be important to strengthening the brave Ukrainian armed forces,” Ursula von der Leyen concluded.
As reported by Ukrinform, the President of the European Commission said in a statement to journalists in Brussels today that Putin will stop at nothing to continue terrorizing Ukraine.
