Russian war crimes in Ukraine: More than 44,000 criminal proceedings already opened

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, investigators of the National Police of Ukraine have initiated 44,662 criminal proceedings over the crimes committed by Russian service members in the territory of Ukraine.

As the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine posted on Telegram, the crimes committed by the Russian military during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as of November 20, 2022, are the following:

  • 33,367 – violation of laws and customs of war (Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • 9,067 – encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • 2,046 – collaboration (Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • 97 – high treason (Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);
  • 37 – subversion (Art. 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and others.

To date, 47 sites, where the Russians illegally held and tortured Ukrainian citizens, have been discovered in the territory of the de-occupied regions.
