“They started a full-scale war and act as if we are to blame,” Zelensky says in Sunday address

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his nation Sunday, calling Ukrainians “the bravest people of the best country in the world.” “We are coming to an end of another week," Zelensky said in his speech, which he has given regularly during Russia’s attack on the country. "Our fight for freedom, for the state. Another week that Ukraine stayed alive, despite all the efforts of Russia to destroy us. We are fighting. We are defending. We are repelling the attacks." Zelensky said the nation is doing all it can to win the war and accused Russian leadership of "lying" in efforts to shift the blame away from…

Quarter of Russian forces “effectively inoperable,” says European official

About one quarter of Russian forces used in the invasion of Ukraine are “effectively inoperable,” according to a European official, following heavy losses, poor logistics and sustainment. Russia had arrayed approximately 120 Battalion Tactical Groups (BTGs), around Ukraine ahead of the invasion, CNN reported at the time. Six weeks into the war, approximately 29 of those are now out of commission, the official said. Russian forces have tried to combine some of the remaining parts of the BTGs into coherent fighting units, using the remains of two or three BTGs to attempt to make one, the official added. Some background:…

Kyiv is now the capital of global democracy, the capital of the struggle for freedom for all in Europe – address by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukrainians! Today I will not take away much of your attention. The day was very informative. I will only briefly walk through the main points of my work this Tuesday, the 41st day of the invasion of the Russian Federation. I continued my active diplomatic work. Addressed the UN Security Council, which convened for a special meeting on Russia's war crimes in Bucha and in the occupied territories of Ukraine in general. I said what should have been said in this format a long time ago. The UN Security Council exists, and security in the world doesn’t. For anyone. This…

Bodies tied up, shot and left to rot in Bucha hint at gruesome reality of Russia’s occupation in Ukraine

https://youtu.be/FDMprMAoINU This story contains graphic imagery. Lviv and Bucha, Ukraine (CNN) The Russian column of tanks and armored personnel carriers sped along a residential street in Bucha, a tree-lined suburb of the capital Kyiv. That was February 27th. A short time later, that same line of vehicles lay in ruins, the wreckage smoldering, after being ambushed by Ukrainian forces. There was no sign of the column's soldiers. In a video showing the destruction, a man could be heard muttering: "I wish you all to burn in hell." But that Ukrainian victory was to be short-lived; a month-long occupation of Bucha…

Putin is making the same mistakes that doomed Hitler when he invaded the Soviet Union

(CNN)Russian President Vladimir Putin often evokes the Soviet Union's epic defeat of Nazi Germany during World War II to justify his country's invasion of Ukraine. Yet Putin is committing some of the same blunders that doomed Germany's 1941 invasion of the USSR -- while using "Hitler-like tricks and tactics" to justify his brutality, military historians and scholars say. This is the savage irony behind Putin's decision to invade Ukraine that's become clear as the war enters its second month: the Russian leader, who portrays himself as a student of history, is floundering because he hasn't paid enough attention to the…
