The US Senate has promulgated a bill on sanctions against Russia in the event of an invasion of Ukraine

Representatives of the Democratic Party in the US Senate have drafted a package of sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, members of the government and Russia’s top military command, which will be applied in the event of Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to the released document, the sanctions will affect the President and Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, the Commanders of the Land and Air Forces, the Commander of the Navy and Airborne missiles, the commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Russian Federation and the commander of the logistics of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The sanctions package includes the blocking and prohibition of any transactions with or in the interests of sanctioned persons if such property or interests are located in the United States or under the control of a US citizen. Unauthorized persons will also be barred from entering the United States. Visas or other entry documents are prohibited. Previously issued documents that allow entry into the United States will be revoked.

The sanctions will also affect Russian companies using the SWIFT system: Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, ZEB RF, RFPI, Moscow Credit Bank, Alfa-Bank, Rosselkhozbank, FC Otkryttia, Promzvyazobank, Radkombank, Transcapitalbank. In addition, senators are proposing to the US president to ban Americans from any transactions with Russian debt. These are only operations carried out after the entry into force of the law.

It is known that the bill includes a number of different provisions aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s security, and calls on the United States to “consider all available and appropriate measures” to ensure that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is not put into operation.
