Netflix bought the rights to stream Rhino by Oleh Sentsov.
“Netflix acquired streaming rights to Rhino,” Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov posted on Facebook.
As reported, Rhino is the second full-length motion picture by Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov. The world premiere took place in the Horizons section of the 78th Venice International Film Festival. In Ukraine, the movie was premiered at the Kyiv Critics’ Week in the autumn of 2021. Recently, the film won the Best Picture and the Best Actor awards at the Stockholm International Film Festival.
The movie is based on a true story of the 1990s in Ukraine. The protagonist, nicknamed Rhino, found himself in the underworld and starts his bloody path, which will lead him not where he expected.
The shooting of Rhino took place in Kryvyi Rih, Lviv, and Kyiv and ended in December 2020.
The co-production of Ukraine, Poland and Germany was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Ukrainian State Film Agency, the EURIMAGES Fund, the Polish Film Institute, and the German film fund Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
