Information Warfare: russian fakes for March 9th 2022 (at 19:00)

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, mass media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy we must fight it on all fronts. That is why we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

FAKE: Victoria Nuland confirmed the existence of US sponsored bio-labs in Ukraine

Source:

Disproof:

Russian propaganda keeps pushing the old narrative about the mythical US sponsored biolabs in Ukraine. This time they cited Victoria Nuland, the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the United States. In one of her addresses she stated that there are research biolabs in Ukraine and expressed her government’s concern about the research materials from said labs getting into Russian hands.

This statement was triumphantly proclaimed as the definitive proof of the US working on bioweapons in Ukraine. But what Victoria Nuland said is perfectly clear: in Ukraine, as in any other developed country, there are research biolabs. Such labs are used in a multitude of fields, from agriculture to pharmaceuticals. Research materials used in such labs, though not weapons-grade, can still be dangerous, which can be used by Russian forces in false flag operations.

As we can see, by trying so hard to push their fake narrative, Russian propagandists once again warp a clear and unambiguous statement by foreign politician, disproving themselves in the process.

FAKE: Ukraine was planning an attack on Donbas by March 2022

Source:

Disproof:

In order to disprove this fake, we just need to actually read the document that the Russian MoD cites as proof of the supposedly planned aggression.

The Russian propagandists probably don’t expect their public to actually check the proof they present, believing instead that the Russian people will blindly take their conclusions for granted. Anyone able to understand Ukrainian, or having access to Google Translate, will understand pretty fast that there is no mention of any planned attacks in the document. All it is, is an order to form a joint tactical battalion group of National Guard, with detailed descriptions of its structure and logistics, its transfer under the command of 80th paratroop brigade, and a subsequent combat coordination exercise. Such an exercise is standard practice for all modern militaries, aimed at improving coordination between units.

In summary, the documents cited lack any orders, hints or clues at a supposed planned attack of any kind.

FAKE: Ukrainian nazis kill or sell out foreign volunteers

Source:

Disproof:

As always, all attempts to find the source of this statement were unsuccessful.

This fake is probably aimed at scaring the volunteers from around the world from joining the fight against the Russian aggression, but the Russian propaganda channels that were supposed to spread it are blocked in US and most of Europe.

In any case, hundreds of international volunteers have already joined the Kyiv defenses, armed, equipped, motivated and included into the military command structure (see photo below).

FAKE: Russian forces have captured Ukrainian nuclear plants to prevent Ukrainian provocations

Source:

Disproof:

Russian forces have captured two nuclear power plants at this time: the infamous Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the biggest in Europe. In both cases, Russians engaged in combat around the plants.

The artillery strikes around Chernobyl Plant raised clouds of radioactive dust, which raised the radiation levels in the area significantly. This can be traced even now: captured or destroyed Russian vehicles around Kyiv, the ones that passed through the Exclusion Zone, are “hot”, and emit radiation. During the fighting for Zaporizhzhia Plant the Russian forces opened fire on the complex itself, causing a fire (see photo below). All these actions create dangers not just for the personnel of the station, but for the rest of Europe and the world.

In both Plants captured personnel are being held hostage. Ukrainian engineers, which work is critical for ensuring safety on the Plants, are working non-stop without rest. The Russian forces cut the power to the Chernobyl Plant, increasing the risk of a new technological disaster.

It is clear from Russian actions that the main goal of capturing nuclear power plants is to hold Ukraine and the rest of the world hostage, thus bolstering their position in negotiations.

Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
