Kvien: Ukraine pushed back Russians around Kyiv and Kharkiv, so it might liberate Crimea and Donbas

Ukraine has already pushed back the Russian army around Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other cities, so Ukraine might be able to push back Russia in other areas which Russia has been able to occupy.

“So far it seems to me that Ukraine has been very successful in pushing back Russia. They pushed back Russia in North of Kyiv, they have now pushed back Russia around Kharkiv. And it is not illogical to think that Ukraine might be able to push back Russia in other areas which Russia has been able to occupy. We specifically haven’t discussed Crimea and Donbas in terms of our military support,” U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine Kristina Kvien told the European Pravda online media outlet in an interview.

In this context, the diplomat stressed that the United States had always recognized Crimea and Donbas as Ukraine.

Kvien denied comments that “the United States is not giving enough weapons to win and push back the Russians from Donbas or Crimea.”

“That is not very true. You have pushed them back. We want Ukraine to be able to push Russia and win the war. And we are doing everything we can to help Ukraine win,” the U.S. Charge d’Affaires said.

On May 9, U.S. President Joe Biden signed into law the Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022 which will expedite the U.S. assistance program to Ukraine.
