Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives have discussed the areas of further U.S. aid, particularly additional air defense systems.
The head of state said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“I held a meeting with a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives. We discussed the key areas of further American assistance, including additional air defense systems. This is critically important, as the Patriot systems help save lives and protect infrastructure,” Zelensky said.
The head of state thanked U.S. President Joseph Biden, both houses and parties of Congress and the people of the United States for their unwavering leadership in supporting Ukraine.
The Chair of the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, Mike Turner, and his colleagues spoke at a briefing about the work of the bipartisan delegation of the U.S. Congress in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The group of congressional representatives who arrived in Kyiv to demonstrate their support for Ukraine, according to Turner, is focused on issues of national and international security.
“We’ve been very pleased with the reports and the briefings that we’ve received, both from our team and from the Ukrainians, on what’s possible here and in ways in which we can continue our support,” he said.
Turner added that they had met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and voiced their support for his leadership and joint achievements with the United States.
“He continued to advocate us for additional air support and air defenses and also for the United States aid to come more quickly, all of which are things that we share of his concerns,” he said.
“We in the United States are learning a lot from what’s going on here, things that lessons learned that will help on future battlefields,” Congressman Ronny Jackson said.
“Today is the anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Gettysburg. July 1st, 1863. I proudly represent Gettysburg. It is not lost on me how this battle was a turning point in the Civil War, and I look forward with the resources, with the courage that the Ukrainians have to see that turning point in this battle against Russia,” Congressman John Joyce said.
