After February 24, 2022, Crimea became not only a springboard for an all-out war but also a springboard for crimes committed by russians both on mainland Ukraine and the peninsula. Yevhenii Yaroshenko, an analyst at CrimeaSOS made this statement during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
“First of all, many civilians abducted by russian security forces in Kherson and Zaporizhia Oblasts ended up in Crimea. According to local Crimean human rights activists, there are at least 110 civilians in the Simferopol detention center. The occupiers forcibly relocated them from the southern regions of Ukraine. The vast majority of them are being held there without any criminal charges brought. The number of Ukrainian citizens illegally imprisoned due to politically motivated charges is growing. Over the year of full-scale war, at least 57 people have been sentenced to a total prison term of 699 years and nine months,” Yaroshenko said.
