Information Warfare: russian fakes for April 3rd 2022

Millions of Ukrainians are encountering Russian propaganda every day. It spreads through TV, radio, media, social networks and by word of mouth. To defeat the enemy, we must fight it on all fronts. To this end, we have prepared a daily compilation of Russian fakes.

Today, the russian information space is reacting to the horrible images from the cities liberated from russian forces. Russian propagandists claim that all evidence of russian war crimes is fake, and are trying to convince the populace to overlook any future-proof of russian atrocities. All russian media outlets are mobilized to achieve this.

Main fake narratives:

  • The “Bucha Massacre” is fake
  • World is blind to Ukrainian war crimes
  • Sanctions against Russia are destroying Europe
  • Ukrainian biolabs
  • Russophobia is dominating the world

FAKE: Nazis confiscate humanitarian aid from civilians

Disproof:

Russia is, once again, mirroring its actions onto Ukraine. There are countless accounts of russian army confiscating the humanitarian aid that was supposed to go to the besieged cities. In the latest such robbery, the russian army took 14 tons of humanitarian aid that were going to Mariupol, where a hundred thousand people are starving.

FAKE: The “Bucha Massacre” is fake

Disproof:

After russians withdrew from Kyiv, the world was hit by images of crimes they committed on the occupied territories. Russian propaganda quickly started an information campaign to counteract the spread of the evidence of their atrocities, or to put the blame on Ukraine.

The first wave of russian fakes accused Ukraine of all the murders in Kyiv region, saying that it was the AFU who bombed Bucha a day after the russians left. Then they said that the murders happened when the russians left, and the AFU entered the city, since the first images of the bodies appeared on April 2nd, while russians allegedly left on March 31st. The problem with these statements, apart from them contradicting each other, is that the AFU didn’t bomb Bucha after the russians withdrew, and the images appeared so late because Ukrainian soldiers moved slowly through the city, clearing it block by block and sweeping for mines.

The second wave of russian fakes accused Ukraine of faking the murders and civilian mass graves. Russian propagandists claim that all photo and video evidence is fake, and are desperately trying to convince russians not to believe any evidence of war crimes in the future, understanding that there will be more than time passes. For example, russia calls images of the bodies on the streets of Bucha fake, saying that the same bodies lie on different streets in different poses, but on closer examination of the images you can clearly see that it’s a same stretch of the road, shot at different angles. You can also see it on video.

As always, the second wave of russian fakes disproves the first, which clarifies it that russians are willing to do anything to avoid responsibility for their crimes.

Be advised: Russia is waging a full-scale information war against Ukraine. There are multitudes of new fakes swarming through the mass-media every day. To protect you and your family, be sure to obtain and share your information only from official sources.
